It’s time for Q.R. Station to spend some serious time in the studio over the next month and a half. First, we will do final recording cuts on “Easy” and “Walk Next To Me”, both of which need just a little more TLC to be at the point where they can be released. Yes, you’ve heard that before, but we are expecting to get to those matters in the very near future. But that is not the only work we will be doing. We will be recording some new songs that you haven’t heard yet. One song, “Better Than This”, is Q.R. Station’s look at the crazy state of the world in which we find ourselves – our country has been led to war and is struggling to find a path to peace. Further, there are hot spots around the world in which people are just trying to live to the next day. Q.R. Station weighs in on the chaos that is the world with this song that begs for a better time. Also, in a recent blog I spoke about a rough day in the life of QR that resulted in a new song. This song doesn’t have a name yet, but we’ll be recording this song for real in the coming month. There are several other songs in the incubator that will get some attention as well.
We are a rock band, and as such we need to have some punch in our sound. We have acquired some new guitar effects pedals that we expect will provide a little more punctuation to our sound. Recently acquired pedals include Big Muff, Tremolo, and a Flanger. This may or may not mean much to you now. It will mean more later when you hear our new work.
The reason we have been holding back official release of our first singles is that we want them to be the best they can be. While you never reach perfection, there are things we know we can do to make them better. We will do just that. We’ll let you know about our progress and hopefully you’ll be ready for us when we start putting our stuff out.

One of the fun things about the “No Standing” album/project is that some of the people stumbling across our early work are surprised by what they hear. In particular, almost everyone who knows me from before “Q.R. Station” is a little surprised that what they are hearing is my voice on the vocals. I guess people who know me in a non-musical sense need a minute to put the voice on the Q.R. Station vocals together with my body or personality. I’m hoping they are surprised in a good way, as in what they are hearing is better than what they would have expected. I know that the more you sing, the stronger your voice gets and so with time I think I am becoming an even better rock star. But it is always fun to hear the reaction – “is that really you?”
Well, yes it’s me and that is indeed SwingDoom on percussion and that is indeed J on bass. We are Q.R. Station, and we hope you like what you are hearing.

You know, life just seems to be catching up with Q.R. Station lately. I’ve been traveling a bit for my day job lately and so has SwingDoom. We want to get moving on some of our songs and get them out the door and on internet radio, but we have a bit of work to do to make that happen. With our travel schedules and active lives, we struggle just to reach each other on the phone these days.
The good news is that we have some more recording equipment that we’ve purchased, and some new guitar effects are going to arrive soon. Guitar effects have not played a major role in our sound just yet, but I believe they will in the future. I’m not sure what the “sound” of Q.R. Station will be. It would be nice if we could find a space in the music world that is as yet untouched – that we might bring a new element to the rock and roll universe. I think that a lot of that may come from SwingDoom because his musical resume is so diverse. I think he will add some funk, some blues, some jazz, and maybe bring us to church now and again. I hope that part of our sound will come from our lyrics, that they will impart a view of this crazy world in which we live. We’ve written some songs that we haven’t put on our site yet for listening. I think when you hear them in the future you will know that we have a point of view on this world and we aren’t afraid to say what’s on our mind. I think in fact that having a view and letting people see it is a big part of rock music, or maybe all music.
It is hard to be a rock star when the rest of your life gets in the way. But I can say that already we have gained a lot of support from friends, family and some people we don’t even know. We have some folks that have signed up for our mailing list or have become a fan of Q.R. Station on ReverbNation. We really do appreciate it. It is so cool when someone takes the time to join that list and let’s us know that they are interested in what we are doing.
We promise to work hard in the next few weeks to move this project along and release our first single. I talked to Swing tonight and that is a commitment we have both made. We’ll get there – please get there with us and keep following the Station.

This will be the shortest blog entry we have had to date. I just wanted to let the world know that Q.R. Station now has a Myspace page. We want to make our presence known to as many people as possible and this is just one way to do that. If you do the Myspace thing, be our friend!
